GOAL

The Tenth Conference of Heads of States of Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) countries held on 1-6 September 1992 concluded among others the idea of providing scholarships by the Ministry of Education and Culture, which is now the Ministry of National Education (MONE). The scholarship is aimed to strengthen the relationship and mutual cooperation among the members of NAM countries, to reciprocate scholarship programs provided by other countries for Indonesian citizens, and to provide stronger cultural links between these nations.

In 1993 the Government of the Republic of Indonesian started to offer postgraduate (master degree) scholarships to students from the NAM member countries.

However, since 2002, after the cold war ended, the scholarship has been offered to citizens of other developing countries such as Thailand, Fiji, South Korea, Suriname, Guyana, Turkey, Vietnam, Vanuatu and attracted more applicants. Over the years up to 2005, 243 students from 36 countries have completed the NAM scholarship program.

Considering that the international political development has made the use of the term “NAM” irrelevant, this scholarship program has been renamed Developing Countries Partnership Scholarship (DCPS) or Beasiswa Kemitraan Negara Berkembang (KNB).

STUDY PROGRAMS

The scholarship is offered to postgraduate students (Master Degree) to study at one of the universities in Indonesia for 3 years, consisting of one year of the Indonesian Language and Preparatory Programs and 2 years of Master Program with the arrangement below.

Study Sessions

Research
1. Research in the framework of the graduate program should be carried out in Indonesia.
2. Should the research be carried in the respective home country, all the cost will be students responsibility.
Language
All lectures and thesis writing will be in the Indonesian language.

SCHOLARSHIP COVERAGE

Financial assistance
1. While taking the Indonesian language course and preparatory programs, a student will get Rp. 1.000.000,-/month (cost of living only).
2. During their Master Programs in Indonesia, students will get monthly stipend as follows :
  - Cost of Living (Net) = Rp. 1.000.000,-
  - Research Allowance (Net) = Rp. 300.000,-
  - Books (Net) = Rp. 200.000,-
3. The tuition fee will be covered by the Government of the Republic of Indonesia
Health insurance
1. The students are eligible to check up their health condition at a public health center referred to by the university
2. Health insurance given to the students is based on the recommended doctor’s statement. In case students should see specialists including dentists, eye specialists and maternity specialists, they should bear all the cost.

The scholarship will be given for a maximum of 36 months with the following schedule

REQUIREMENTS

The maximum age is 35 years
Copies of the diploma and academic transcripts (translated into English) for bachelor degree holders
A TOEFL score of 450 or equivalent (the certificate being attached)
A Health certificate from recognized medical doctors in the respective home countries

ARRIVAL IN INDONESIA

International Airfare
The Indonesian Government provides a round-trip international airfare (economic class) from the international airport of the students’ home countries to Jakarta.
Visa
1. The students are expected to have a valid passport minimum for 2 years.
2. Visa used for joining this program is a Short-Visit Visa (VITAS) that can be gained through the Embassy of Republic of Indonesia where the participants live. Furthermore, this visa should be conversed to get the Stay-Permit for 1 (one) year upon the arrival of the participants in Indonesia through the Immigration Office where the participants study.
  
  The participants are prohibited to use the Tourist Visa to study in Indonesia, since it will have effect in processing the Stay-Permit.
On arrival
1. After obtaining the social/culture visa from the Indonesian Embassy/Consulate in the student’s country of residence, the students are urged to depart for Indonesian as soon as possible
2. Students are required to inform the Bureau for Planning and International Cooperation, Ministry of National Education, Jakarta regarding their schedule of arrival in Indonesia. This is to enable this Bureau to make all necessary arrangements in meeting all students at the Soekarno-Hatta International Airport.
3. Students are strongly advised not to be accompanied by any family member. The monthly stipend provided is only appropriate for one person.
